Endless Summer
A couple weeks ago I exited the subway near my house only to find myself in a spontaneous downpour. By the time I had run the short block home, I was drenched. My sundress and Keds were thoroughly soaked. While my dress dried, the typical Manhattan humidity kept my poor worn white tennies from drying completely. After a few washes, they were still pretty gross and I had to toss them in the trash.
I haven't had a chance to buy a replacement pair, but after reading my friend Daria's
post for the Opening Ceremony blog, I think I may have to get something a little snazzier a
nd more patriotic than my last Keds. Opening Ceremony has collaborated with Keds to bring us some great Americana-inspired shoes that embody a year-round July 4th mentality. And what's better than the 4th of July?
Just try to avoid sporting your new sneaks on a rainy day...

i heart NOLA
So if I hadn't just graduated from Gallatin, I would either be graduating from Berkeley or Tulane. If I had gone to Tulane, and been a part of the Katrina Class, Ellen Degeneres would have spoken at my Commencement. Not that I have any complaints about Hillary Clinton's wonderful speech

The Art of Travel
Well I'm going to try to not make this blog such an epic fail anymore, although I will probably only blog on semi-Colloquium related topics until after April 14th...
I don't agree with this article or I would not have put The Art of Travel on my Colloquium book list, but I did find the opening amusing:
"Why are we here? What is the sound of one hand clapping? If a tree falls in a forest, and there's no one around to witness it, will Alain de Botton write an entire book about it anyway?"
I enjoyed this part of the caustic review after our discussion in Steve Hutkins' class, A Sense of Place, yesterday regarding Andy Goldsworthy and "Rivers and Tides" and "if A.G. makes a natural sculpture and no one is there to film or photograph it, did he actually create it?" Something like that…
I should probably write about all this in my blog for Hutkins' class, but I have to get back to my reading. Also, check out my blogs (3-in-one deal!) for his other courses, The Art of Travel (no coincidence here, it's based around ADB's book), Literary Geography, and American Road Trip. Yeah… Gallatin is the best.
I should add more links to this post, i'll try to get to that soon… you know, because I'm SO good at being a blogger...
